Mari started practicing yoga in late 2012. Brand new to the terminology and the format of a yoga class, after a few minutes of laying down on the floor with her eyes closed, she thought to herself, “has the teacher forgotten about us?” The teacher hadn’t. Mari had just experienced her first savasana! Intrigued, Mari returned to classes and became a regular practitioner. Through yoga, she discovered the great things she was capable of both mentally and physically.
Several months later, with her new found confidence, she started doing Crossfit. The workouts were tough and helped her see that she had so much unlocked potential. Yoga and Crossfit were the perfect combination for her.
In 2014, she was accepted into the Forensic Linguistics program at Hofstra University, where she would pursue a second Master’s degree. California natives, she and her boyfriend drove across the country, explored the States, and moved to New York.
As Mari came to realize, no matter where you are, the commitment to practice brings unforeseen benefits to your life. In spite of being a full-time student who could not afford a yoga membership, she was able to attend the Free Community Class at Yoga Nanda – Garden City and later, became a karma yogi at the Long Beach location. Soon after, and upon her acceptance to work for Yoga Nanda, she had the incredible opportunity to help coordinate volunteers for One Love Long Island, a yearly festival that was started by Cara Stone (during her Global Seva Challenge) that raises awareness about social and human injustice.
Mari has managed the Long Beach location and now manages the Garden City location of Yoga Nanda.
